I design and fabricate things for my friends, my family, and my convenience.

Cotton bag - from scratch

I had my first visit to my new local yarn shop, a really lovely place.
I'm pairing some fingering weight cotton I bought there with some stash yarn that I inherited from a family member.

Post-PhD shawl

This is my first project using lace weight yarn, and it's been a real treat! I'm really happy with how soft and warm the center motif is with the alpaca yarn, and I've been very pleased with the weight and drape that the beads provide.
I followed the charting for all the beads, but I chose to do different colored beads for the edge beads than for the rest of the body. I thought (correctly) that the stash of sliver beads I had wouldn't show up very well against the very pale blue yarn, and since I'd need to purchase more anyway it was a good opportunity to try a dark and constrasting bead.

Saddle sweater

Since I've done the plain mock-ups, the fun / interesting thing for the full sized sweater will be the color. I'll be holding the yarn double to get the fabric I want, which will allow for a really great way to transition between the two colors. I'll have red for the ribbing on the bottom of the body and the ends of the sleeves, a mixed section for part of the body and sleeves, grey for the upper part of the sweater.

Wine dark socks

The plan is to use the Wine-Dark Sea colorway to make these socks. Then I can have them to wear around the house.
